When you’re facing such competition from Spotify, Rdio or Pandora, hugely popular global music streaming services, you have to play your cards right and do everything and anything possible to keep your existing users happy while trying to attract new customers as well.
Sony seems to be currently doing exactly that with its Music Unlimited on-demand streaming service. After recently launching it in Japan (aka trying to attract new customers), the company has now updated the Music Unlimited Android apps (aka keeping its existing users happy). The tablet and mobile app versions have been upgraded to version 1.4, and while the changelogs are not exactly overwhelming, the couple of changes made by Sony will most likely be noticeable for regular Music Unlimited users.
Android tablet owners will be happy to know that they can now finally listen to their favorite tracks offline, which is a very welcomed update that hit the smartphone app version some time ago.
Meanwhile, those of you who use Music Unlimited on a smartphone will be treated with a number of small tweaks and new features, including access to My Channels, allowing you to listen to radio stations molded based on your specific tastes and preferences. Besides that cool new feature, you can now get 30-second previews of songs for free, install the app’s APK (application package file) to an SD card, and sign up for a new account straight from your mobile phone.
There might be some other changes, improvements and a couple of bug fixes brought by the two updates, so if you notice anything new (good or bad) on your Music Unlimited Android app, don’t be shy and drop us a comment.
What update 1.4 surely doesn’t bring to the table, however, are compatibility fixes for Google’s Nexus 7 Tablet, which is disappointing to say the least. Then again, there’s still a wide array of Android-based tablets and phones not supported by the app, so we can’t say we’re very surprised that we won’t be able to access the music streaming service on our spanking new Nexus slates.
